The first tour-related charter flight in seven years from mainland China to Korea's vacation destination, Jeju Island, welcomed the first weekend of the month. The presence of the service was independently confirmed by GGRAsia after it checked information released through the website (file photo) of Jeju International Airport, a local aviation hub. Local media previously reported that it was the first charter flight in seven years.

Jeju, a semi-autonomous district, has a number of foreigner-only casinos.

West Airlines Co Ltd.'s charter service on Saturday, based in the central Chinese city of Chongqing, reportedly brought in 180 passengers from Zhengzhou, a major city in Henan in the Middle East. Local reports say two inbound chartered flights from there will take place every week.

The seven-year suspension of chartered flights from China to Jeju was linked to a larger dispute between China and South Korea over the missile systems the U.S. supplies to Jeju, local media reported.

Lotte Tourism Development Co., the founder of Jeju Dream Tower Casino Resort, said in a press release citing tourism industry sources that it understands that it will also operate chartered flights to Hefei, a major city in China's central Anhui Province, and Fuzhou, a major city in Fujian Province, starting this month. After receiving inquiries from GGRAsia, Lotte Tourism said the information came from local travel agencies. The airlines involved in such flights were not identified.

An additional four air charter services from Guangzhou to Jeju in southeastern China's Guangdong Province will be offered from Dec. 1, according to a Lotte Tour announcement. In addition, air charter services were expected to be offered in Chongqing, Qingdao, a port city in eastern Shandong Province, Changsha, a major city in central Hunan Province, and Wuhan, a major city in central China's Hubei Province, respectively, in December.
